Stephan Balzer is the founder and managing director of the communications agency red onion GmbH in Berlin. A trained media consultant, he is also one of the pioneers of the German new media scene.
During his studies from 1991 to 1996, Stephan worked at Pixelpark Group in various positions. In 1996, he founded the design agency LAVA, which created a number of award-winning customer projects.
In 1998, he co-founded BerlinBeta, a combination film festival and multimedia conference. Balzer also serves as its Creative Director. The festival focuses on future topics, exploring new technologies and trends.
In 2009, Balzer was the first German TEDx conferences licensee, and was recently appointed by the American TED organization as the TEDx ambassador for Europe. Social responsibility plays an important role in all of his projects.
He is also a passionate art collector and a spokesman for the "Stiftung Zukunft Berlin," and is the chairman of a theater association in Berlin. In 2007, Balzer co-founded the Contemporary Arts Alliance Berlin (CAA), which promotes contemporary arts across the fields of art, dance, music, and theater.
