I'm proud to be launching my annual CEO letter and the Gates Foundation’s annual report on our new blog, Impatient Optimists.
In my letter, I talk about our efforts to listen and communicate more effectively. The new blog will help us do both.
The goal with everything we do—whether it’s the grants we make, the letters I write, or the blog we publish—is to have the greatest possible impact on people’s lives.

With Impatient Optimists, we can keep you, members of our community, posted on what we’re up to—and you can weigh in with your opinions. I’m optimistic that the new blog will help us get the best out of social media: substantive engagement at a large scale.
The goal with everything we do—whether it’s the grants we make, the letters I write, or the blog we publish—is to have the greatest possible impact on people’s lives. If we provide as much information as we can in the most user-friendly way we can (and I think the annual report is a good example), then we help build awareness and action around the issues we are committed to.
I invite you to join the community at Impatient Optimists. I hope you learn more about our work from the annual report. And I urge you to post a comment if something you see here captures your attention.
