Here at the foundation, we are always looking for innovative ways to communicate. Recently, an amazing crowdsourced creation came our way via our friends at TEDxMadrid—vibrant, animated videos from last September’s TEDxChange event—showing how communities such as the TEDx team in Madrid can help tell the stories of our work.
TEDxMadrid was one of the dozens of TEDx events around the world to host a TEDxChange viewing party—an incredible global effort to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). At the time, Antonella Broglia, the TEDxMadrid organizer, shared with us these fanciful yet informative drawings done at the event of the talks by Melinda Gates, Hans Rosling, and Mechai Viravaidya. Today, these drawings hang in our offices at the foundation—a reminder of the creativity found in the TEDxChange community.
We’ve seen similar creativity before, including in this winning poster design related to the MDGs. But the videos below are a first for us—the first instance where members of the community have taken our video content and given these talks a whole new flavor. See for yourself:
We recently crossed a landmark milestone with our 500,000th Twitter follower. As I mentioned in my prior blog post, we hope to use social media for social good, and it’s efforts like these from our friends in Madrid that show the power of what is possible.
Do you have an idea for how we can collaborate to communicate about our issues? Look for more in the months ahead as to how we can crowdsource in new and compelling ways to tell the stories of the work being done around the world on the issues we all care so deeply about. We would love to hear from you!
Update in response to Philippe’s comment below: “Thanks, Philippe! We are in the process of redesigning our blog and we hope that many of the issues you raise here will be addressed by the redesign. We’re excited to be able to ramp up our online community and create a space where many voices are welcomed—not only foundation voices but partners, fellow bloggers, and readers as well. It’s important to us that we provide an online forum to discuss these issues and ways to solve some of our most pressing global problems. The wheels are turning and we’re working hard, so please stay tuned and thanks again for the input.”
